Windows XP DVD Burner Problem

by on May.04, 2009, under Tech Solutions

My mother often has a problem with Windows not recognizing her burner as a burner but as a normal dvd player, as with millions of other Windows XP users. I’m not sure exactly what causes the problem but here is the solution:

  1. On your Desktop, Right click on ‘My Computer‘ and choose ‘Manage’.
  2. In the Left hand pane, click on ‘Device Manager‘.
  3. Click the ‘+‘ sign next to ‘DVD/CD-ROM drives‘ to expand the list.
  4. Right click on the Suspect DVD drive in the list below and choose ‘Uninstall
  5. Click on ‘OK‘ to the warning that you are about to remove this item from your system.
  6. Reboot the computer.
  7. When Windows restarts it will reconfigure the drive back to it’s normal functional state.

Hope this helps! :)
